Creating a Personal Plan for Confronting Climate Change: Part 2 – Taking Political Action

Creating a Personal Plan for Confronting Climate Change: Part 1 – Sources of Information

Although climate change denial is alive and well, most of us are beginning to acknowledge the wisdom in Governor Schwarzenegger’s analogy: denial of climate change is like taking your sick child to 100 doctors and siding with the two who tell you that nothing needs to be done against the 98 who say that the child must take medicine or die (Thomas Friedman, Hot, Flat, and Crowded, 138).

Fair Trade Coffee

This is the second article in a five-part series that examines three alternatives for the socially responsible coffee drinker: fair trade, direct trade, and Starbuck’s C.A.F.E. program. Message me an email address for them and yourself. I'll send a set of interview questions. Since you have first hand information about the workers, you could probably contribute to the sort of information I'm looking for.

I can put you in touch with the Esperanza folks if you'd like; I donate pro-bono tech help, and have been fortunate enough to visit them and many of their artisans to see firsthand the amazing, night-and-day transformations that just a few years of getting fair prices for their work has done.

This is what a small earthworm raising facility looks like. For less than US$ 3000, we can build a facility like this on Christian's farm that with approximately 8 hrs. work per week we could feasibly generate some $ 15,000 in products every 60 da...
