- Gary, I always suggest the 'tourist thing' until you really locate somewhere that really interests you. Never leave a property unoccipied anywhere in the world. If you locate somewhere near us, we provide a service to care for or even rent a property in your absence. Christian, owner of the Bistro in Acari, has offered me an apartment in his pousada and as we are working in the ONG with the mandallas, this is perfect for me.

Was considering relocating to Brazil for part of each year, but have pretty much decided I'll just do the tourist thing after talking at length with a US friend who married a Brazilian girl and owns property there... Seems he's lucky to have family there, as he says many who own property near him and leave it unoccupied during their absence return to find "squatters" occupying their residence that are difficult, if not impossible, to remove... I do still plan to visit, though. Thanks again for welcoming me to the group!

Shouldn't the plural of phone booth be phone beeth

What the heck does a humanitarian eat!?
Why do people recite at a play
Yet play at a recital?
Park on driveways and
Drive on parkways

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy
Of a language where a house can burn up as
It burns down
And in which you fill in a form
By filling it out

And a bell is only heard once it goes!

English was invented by people, not computers
And it reflects the creativity of the human race
(Which of course isn't a race at all)

This system is a unique type of farming method to raise organic vegetables in the semi-arid regions of the sertão in northeast Brazil.

Possible Club Investment - how a small investment can benefit both the NGO/ONG and the community farmers
This idea is being discussed by our directors .... we have a small area on the farm owned by Christian, where we could do this project with a very small investment. The resulting 'humus' produced by raising earthworms could provide benefits for our community farmers, and also produce income by selling it to nurseries, and gardeners in the cities nearby.

An example of how an non-profit can help family agriculture in a developing or poor country - Peirre Rabhi
We are working with Family Agriculture in the poor northeast of Brazil. Peirre Rabhi works in Africa, but the conditions are the same. Some 30 years ago I also worked with FAO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Peirre's story had become sort of a 'guideline' for our NGO/ONG (Christian, one of our directors is also French). Christian stated this morning that to do a project like this ..
